In a world of computer programs and digital graphics, the hand is still the most valuable tool in an architect's arsenal. There is a special quality to hand renderings and sketches that isn't achievable with computers. Clients appreciate this quality and can ultimately be what sells them on the project.
During a sleepless night in high school I decided to pass time by trying to draw. From a #2 pencil I upgraded to charcoal and eventually pens, which is my preferred method. When I started architecture school I found comfort being able to rely on my hand to communicate ideas especially when my computer skills were not as proficient early on.

I love to experiment with other media to create interesting images. One of my favorite methods to play around with is graffiti. With some photo paper, a few cans of spray paint, and some junk I found around the house I was able to have a lot of fun. Graffiti taught me to work fast and to be confident with my movement, otherwise the paint would dry to quickly or get out of control. It also taught me to roll with my mistakes and figure out ways to incorporate them into the piece, making each one unique.
